What Leprechauns and Grief Have in Common

St. Patrick’s Day is one of those holidays that invites a little imagination. (And if you are anything like me, you love opportunities like this!)

Leprechauns hiding gold.
Rainbows leading somewhere magical.
Four-leaf clovers bringing a little extra luck.

When we were kids, it was easy to believe that somewhere out there was a tiny mischievous creature guarding a pot of treasure at the end of a rainbow.

As adults, we tend to see things a little differently.

These days, luck might look more like finding the TV remote on the first try… or realizing there’s still coffee left in the pot when you thought it was empty. 🍀🌈

But St. Patrick’s Day still reminds us to look for treasure.

And strangely enough, grief has something in common with leprechauns.

Stay with me for a moment.

Leprechauns, according to the old stories, guard treasure.

Not just any treasure — something precious enough to protect.

Grief does something similar.

Except the treasure grief guards isn’t gold.

It guards memories.

The sound of someone’s laugh.

A favorite place you used to walk together.

A random story that still makes you smile years later.

The little things that show up unexpectedly and remind you that love existed here.

Those memories aren’t always easy to carry.

Sometimes they sneak up on you in the middle of an ordinary day.

Sometimes they bring a smile.

Sometimes they bring tears.

But like the treasure in the old stories, they are proof that something valuable once lived in that space.

Something worth protecting.

Something worth remembering.

So today, while people are wearing green, joking about leprechauns, and searching for four-leaf clovers, I’m reminded that treasure doesn’t always look like gold.

Sometimes treasure is a memory.

Sometimes it’s a story.

Sometimes it’s simply the quiet reminder that love leaves a mark on our lives that time doesn’t erase.

And maybe that’s the real luck in life.

Not finding treasure.

But having loved someone enough that the memories stay.

So today I hope you find a little luck.

Maybe in a good parking spot.

Maybe in an unexpected laugh.

Or maybe in a memory that reminds you just how rich your life really is.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️

Love and Light ~Mandy
